Punat is situated on the eastern shore of the vast Puntarska Draga, an almost circular bay connected to the sea only by a narrow opening. This protected location made the town the good site for Marina Punat, founded in 1964 as Croatia's first marina and now one of the best-equipped on the Adriatic. Besides nautical tourism, Punat is deeply rooted in the tradition of olive growing; the oil produced here is considered among the best in the country. The centerpiece of the bay is the small islet of Košljun, home to a Franciscan monastery. It houses a precious library, an ethnographic museum, and a significant collection of sacred art. The atmosphere in Punat is quieter than in the nearby town of Krk, characterized by well-kept seaside promenades and the silvery shimmering leaves of the surrounding olive groves. Every autumn, the 'Olive Days' take place, allowing visitors to witness the harvest firsthand and taste fresh oil. Punat thus combines modern nautical excellence with centuries-old agricultural heritage.
