Zheravna is a scenic mountain village in the Balkan Range and is considered one of Bulgaria's most significant architectural reserves. The village preserves more than 200 wooden houses from the Bulgarian National Revival period (18th and 19th centuries), known for their exquisite woodcarvings and sturdy construction. The local architecture is characterized by massive oak beams, wide overhanging eaves, and cozy courtyards surrounded by high stone walls. Zheravna was once a prosperous center for crafts and trade, which is reflected in the magnificent interior decoration of its residences. Besides its architecture, the village is famous as the birthplace of the renowned writer Yordan Yovkov, whose home now serves as a dedicated museum. The Church of St. Nicholas, built in 1834, houses a valuable collection of icons and religious artifacts.
