Golyamo Selo is an industrially oriented village in the Bobov Dol Municipality, located in southwestern Bulgaria. The history and current appearance of the settlement are inextricably linked to coal mining and power generation. In its immediate vicinity lies the Bobov Dol Thermal Power Plant, one of the largest power plants in the country, which has dominated the regional economy for decades. Historically, the residents of Golyamo Selo were heavily employed in the surrounding lignite mines. Despite the industrial neighborhood, the village has maintained a core of traditional rural lifestyle. The settlement is situated in the hilly landscape of the Kyustendil Province, influenced by the climate of the Struma Valley. In recent years, the village has faced the challenges of economic transition and the ecological reclamation of former mining areas. Golyamo Selo serves as a significant example of Bulgarian industrial sites from the socialist era and their transformation into the modern age.
