Batanovtsi is a town in western Bulgaria, located in the Pernik Province along the banks of the Struma River. The town has a significant industrial heritage, notably being the site of Bulgaria's first cement factory, established in 1913, which catalyzed the economic development of the entire region. During the socialist era, the town was temporarily renamed Temelkovo before reverting to its original name. Geographically, Batanovtsi is situated in a hilly plain between the Vitosha and Lyulin mountains, making it a strategic point on the transport route between Sofia and the Greek border. Although heavy industry has declined in recent decades, the town remains an important residential area for commuters.
