Sapareva Banya is a world-famous spa town in southwestern Bulgaria, set at the northern foot of the Rila Mountains. The town gained international fame for hosting the only geyser in mainland Europe, which erupts in the town center with a water temperature of 103 degrees Celsius. Historically, the settlement stands on the site of the ancient Thracian and Roman city of Germania, ruins of which are still accessible to visitors. The medicinal properties of the local mineral water are extensively used for treating musculoskeletal and nervous system disorders. Geographically, Sapareva Banya acts as the primary gateway to the Rila National Park and is the starting point for excursions to the iconic Seven Rila Lakes. The mountain climate, combined with the nearby Panichishte resort, provides excellent conditions for winter sports. The town successfully blends ancient history with modern wellness tourism and high-altitude adventures.
