Ozren
Ozren is a mountain range in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina, stretching between the cities of Doboj and Maglaj and bounded by the Bosna and Spreča rivers. Its peak, Velika Ostravica, reaches an altitude of 918 meters. The mountain is characterized by gentle slopes and dense forests of beech and oak. A significant cultural landmark is the 16th-century Ozren Monastery, a major spiritual center for the Serbian Orthodox Church in the region. The area is also famous for its thermal springs and abundance of medicinal herbs, making Ozren a popular destination for health-oriented tourism. Geologically, the range is part of the Balkan ophiolite zone, featuring serpentinite rocks that host unique plant species. During the Bosnian War in the 1990s, Ozren was the site of significant military activities, which remains a key part of the region's contemporary history and collective memory.
