Gračanica Clock Tower
The Gračanica Clock Tower (Sahat-kula) is one of the most prominent Ottoman-era monuments in this northern Bosnian town. It was likely constructed in the late 17th century, around 1680, and features a characteristic square stone base with a height of approximately 27 meters. The structure is topped with a pyramid-shaped roof, which has been covered with metal sheeting in modern times. Throughout the centuries, the tower survived numerous wars and fires, undergoing several restorations to preserve its structural integrity. In 2003, it was designated as a National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina, reflecting its historical and architectural significance. The tower remains a central landmark of the Gračanica old town, illustrating the urban development and architectural styles of the Balkan region under Ottoman rule. While the clock mechanism itself has been updated over the years, the tower continues to function as a public timekeeper and a symbol of local identity.
