Osmaci is a relatively young municipality in the eastern part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, formed in 1995 following the Dayton Peace Agreement from parts of the pre-war Kalesija municipality. The region is located at the transition between the Drina Valley and the foothills of the Majevica mountain range, characterized by a hilly landscape. Economically, Osmaci is predominantly agricultural, with grain cultivation, fruit growing, and livestock farming serving as the main sources of income for the population. Despite its small size, the municipality holds strategic importance due to its location on the boundary line between the country's two entities. Local infrastructure was painstakingly rebuilt after the war to enable the return of displaced residents. The natural environment gives opportunities for hunting and rural tourism in a quiet, undisturbed atmosphere. Today, Osmaci faces the challenge of creating sustainable jobs to prevent the migration of the younger population to larger urban centers.
