Lake Bütgenbach, tucked away in the rolling hills of the Belgian Eifel region in Eastern Belgium, is a photogenic 120-hectare reservoir created by damming the Warche River. The imposing 23-meter-high arch dam was completed in 1932, originally intended primarily for hydroelectric power generation and water level regulation. Today, the reservoir has evolved into a premier recreational and water sports hub, attracting thousands of visitors annually. Its excellent water quality and expansive, heavily forested shores make it well-suited for activities such as sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, and swimming, particularly at the artificial 'Vennbahn' beach. A diverse, 10-kilometer-long hiking and cycling trail encircles the lake, offering impressive views of the pristine natural environment. Despite its popularity for tourism, Lake Bütgenbach remains a vital habitat for numerous waterfowl and fish species.
The most pleasant time to visit is Jun–Aug.
