Bayehon Waterfall (Belgium)

Weather…

The Bayehon Waterfall (Cascade du Bayehon), hidden deep within the forests of the High Fens, drops from a height of about nine meters, making it the second-highest waterfall in Belgium. Tucked away in a wildly romantic valley near the village of Longfaye, far from major roads, the site possesses a distinctly mystical atmosphere. What makes this waterfall truly unique is the striking reddish-brown to copper color of its water. This unusual tint is caused by the high iron content of the acidic peat soils in the surrounding upland moors through which the Bayehon stream flows. The environment around the waterfall is characterized by dark coniferous forests, moss-covered boulders, and steep rugged trails, making it one of the most photogenic and highly sought-after destinations for challenging hikes in the eastern Ardennes. During winter, when frost partially freezes the tumbling water, the Bayehon provides a particularly spectacular natural display.
