Bouillon (Belgium)

Weather…

Bouillon is inextricably linked to its monumental castle, which towers over the town on a narrow rocky ridge. The fortress is considered one of Belgium's most significant castle complexes and was the ancestral seat of Godfrey of Bouillon, leader of the First Crusade. Today, the site features fascinating insights into medieval military architecture and spectacular views of the Semois River. The town itself is located tightly against the riverbank, offering a relaxed atmosphere with numerous brasseries and hotels. In addition to the castle, the bird of prey show held in the fortress courtyard is a major highlight for visitors. The region is a hiker's paradise, as the surrounding forests of the Ardennes feature an excellently maintained network of trails. Kayaking on the gentle Semois River, which almost completely encircles the town, is also very popular among tourists. Culinary highlights include wild game specialties and the local 'Cuvée de Bouillon' beer. The town is best reached by car, as it is situated deep within the hilly landscape of the Luxembourg province.
