Lake Osveya (Belarus)

Weather…

Lake Osveya, located in the Vitebsk Region in the far north of Belarus, is the second largest lake in the country, covering an area of 52.8 square kilometers. It is situated in close proximity to the Russian and Latvian borders and is a typical shallow lake of glacial origin, with an average depth of only two meters. An outstanding feature of the lake is the island of Vispa, which, at around five square kilometers, is the largest island in Belarus and previously even hosted a small village. The lake is also famous for its floating islands, dense entanglements of reeds and peat that are propelled across the water's surface by wind and waves. As the centerpiece of the Osveyski Landscape Reserve, the water body is of immense ornithological importance, attracting massive colonies of waterfowl and serving as a vital breeding ground. Its fish-rich waters draw both commercial and recreational fishers alike.
