Kozyansky Biological Reserve (Belarus)

Weather…

The Kozyansky Biological Reserve, located in the water-rich north of the republic, fascinates with its complex mosaic of massive raised bogs crisscrossed by mineral forested islands and countless small dystrophic lakes. This inhospitable yet ecologically invaluable landscape is a first-rate representation of a relict ecosystem defying the climatic conditions following the last Ice Age. Kozyansky is primarily known as one of the most important refuges for highly specialized boreal species that can hardly find habitats elsewhere in Europe. Outstanding is the presence of rare bird species such as the majestic Golden Eagle, the Willow Ptarmigan, and various plovers, which find great, undisturbed nesting and hunting grounds in the endless expanse of peat mosses and cottongrass.
