Butrimovich Palace (Belarus)

Weather…

The Butrimovich Palace in Pinsk is an architectural jewel that perfectly embodies the elegant transition from Late Baroque to Early Neoclassical design. Constructed between 1784 and 1794 for the prominent judge Mateusz Butrimowicz, the building is notable as one of the very first purely civilian brick palaces in the city. The construction was of such high prestige that the last King of Poland, Stanislaw II August Poniatowski, personally attended the cornerstone-laying ceremony. The U-shaped, single-story palace features a striking columned portico and was strategically oriented to offer majestic views over the Pina River. Despite suffering severe damage during both World War I and World War II, and being repurposed variously as a printing house, a cinema, and a pioneer youth center, the structure was saved through extensive, high-quality restoration efforts. Today, its magnificent halls have been returned to their former glory, housing the city's registry office and engaging museum exhibitions.
