The Braslau Ridge in northern Belarus is one of the most striking examples of a glacial terminal moraine landscape. Formed during the final phase of the Vistula (Valdai) glaciation about 18,000 years ago, the relief is characterized by a complex mosaic of steep hills, deep depressions, and numerous lakes. The highest peaks reach approximately 210 meters above sea level, offering panoramic views over the Braslau lake district. The geological composition consists mainly of sandy and gravelly moraine deposits, often interspersed with large glacial erratics. This uneven topography has hindered large-scale agriculture, which is why much of the original forest and lake landscape has remained intact. Today, the area is protected as a national park and serves as a major hub for ecotourism. The region is significant not only geographically but also culturally, located at the crossroads with Lithuania and Latvia, with a settlement history spanning thousands of years.
