The Juma Mosque of Shamakhi is one of the oldest mosques in the Caucasus and all of Azerbaijan. It was originally built in 743-744, just decades after the advent of Islam. Throughout its long history, the mosque has been severely damaged by numerous earthquakes and invasions, but it has always been rebuilt, with each restoration adding elements of its era. The last major reconstruction was completed in the early 21st century, restoring it to its former glory. The mosque is distinguished by its monumental size, its three grand halls, and its impressive dome. It is not only an important religious center for Shia Muslims in Azerbaijan but also a significant historical and architectural monument, symbolizing the resilience and enduring heritage of faith in the region.
