Diri Baba Mausoleum (Azerbaijan)

Weather…

The Diri Baba Mausoleum is a unique 15th-century, two-story tomb carved into a cliff face near the town of Qobustan (not to be confused with the Gobustan National Park). Built in 1402, the mausoleum is a masterpiece of the Shirvan school of architecture, striking in its harmonious integration with the surrounding landscape. According to legend, a holy man named Diri Baba ('the living grandfather'), who lived here in asceticism and whose body remained incorrupt after death, is buried here. The mausoleum was a place of worship and contemplation for Sufi dervishes. The structure consists of the main hall on the upper floor, richly decorated with calligraphy, and a grotto below. The unusual construction and spiritual aura make it one of Azerbaijan's most captivating historical monuments.
