Mount Bazarduzu (Azerbaijan)

Weather…

Mount Bazarduzu is the highest peak in the Republic of Azerbaijan, reaching an elevation of 4,466 meters above sea level. It is part of the Greater Caucasus mountain range and sits on the international border between Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation. The peak is composed of shale and porphyry, with its upper reaches characterized by permanent snowfields and small glaciers, which are among the few in the eastern Caucasus. The name Bazarduzu translates to "Market Square," historically referring to a nearby flat area where traders from different valleys met. Climbing expeditions are common during the summer months, though the terrain requires technical skills due to its steep slopes and unpredictable weather. The mountain's southern slopes are located within the Shahdag National Park, providing protection for the high-altitude flora and fauna.
