Water temperature…
Quba sits at about six hundred metres altitude on the north-eastern slopes of the Greater Caucasus, some hundred and sixty kilometres north of Baku, and has been known since the eighteenth century for its mild climate, crisp apples and artistic carpet weaving. The historic Quba carpet school is one of the most important knotted weaving styles of Azerbaijan, characterised by geometric medallions and deep blue backgrounds. Across the Gudyalchay River lies Qirmizi Qasaba, often described as the last purely Jewish settlement outside Israel, where Mountain Jews have lived for centuries and maintain several grand synagogues, a museum and kosher restaurants. Other highlights include the seventeenth-century Juma Mosque, the central bazaar with stalls full of apples and honey, and the Afurja waterfall in the nearby highlands frequented by hikers.
