Jesuit Estancia of Jesús María (Argentina)

Weather…

Estancia Jesús María, located about 50 kilometers north of Córdoba, was the second oldest rural estate of the Jesuit Order in the region, founded in 1618. It specialized in viticulture and produced the famous 'Lagrimilla' wine, which was even delivered to the royal court in Spain. The complex includes a beautiful church dedicated to Saint Ignatius of Loyola, as well as the residence with its cloisters and inner courtyards. The architecture displays a harmonious blend of European Baroque elements and local building materials. Beyond winemaking, the estancia was a center for livestock and agriculture, with labor performed largely by enslaved people of African descent and local Guaraní. After 1767, the estate was secularized and changed owners several times before being declared a National Historic Monument in 1941. Today, it houses the National Jesuit Museum, which exhibits one of Argentina's most significant collections of sacred art and colonial objects, and has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2000.
