Mussulo
Mussulo is a roughly 30-kilometer-long peninsula located just off the coast of Luanda, measuring only a few hundred meters wide in some places. Formed largely by sand deposits, it creates a large bay that is protected from the open Atlantic Ocean. Visitors flock here, especially on weekends, to escape the noise of the capital city. The bay-facing side provides calm, warm waters and is completely lined with coconut palms. This area is home to numerous resorts, private beach houses, and small restaurants serving fresh fish, grilled lobster, and the traditional cassava dish called funge. The western side facing the open ocean has strong waves and remains mostly deserted. The best way to reach the peninsula is by taking a short boat ride from the pier in the Benfica neighborhood of Luanda. Water sports such as kitesurfing, jet skiing, and paddleboarding are highly popular in the calm bay. The dry season from May to October provides comfortable temperatures, while the hotter, humid months from December to March are great for classic beach activities.
