Farkë is a flourishing administrative unit located to the east of Tirana, which has developed into one of the most desirable residential and recreational areas of the Albanian capital. The region is primarily famous for the artificial Lake Farkë, created in 1980 for irrigation purposes, but now serving as a hub for water sports and outdoor leisure. Geographically, Farkë covers an area of 41.48 square kilometers, characterized by a hilly terrain that provides a scenic contrast to the dense city center. According to the 2011 census, its population stands at approximately 22,633 residents, encompassing villages such as Farkë e Madhe and Farkë e Vogël. In the past, the area was renowned for its extensive olive groves, high-quality olive oil production, and long-standing pottery traditions. Today, the landscape is defined by upscale residential complexes and villas, as many affluent Tirana residents value the proximity to nature and fresh air. Major infrastructure projects, including the completion of the Tirana Ring Road, have integrated Farkë seamlessly with the urban core. Despite modernization, the lake remains a crucial ecological corridor and a favorite destination for hikers and cyclists.
