Unveiled in 1971, the statue stands 12 meters high and is constructed from reinforced concrete, representing the nation as a protective mother guarding the fallen soldiers. It was designed by a team of prominent sculptors led by Kristaq Rama, Muntaz Dhrami, and Shaban Hadëri. The figure holds a laurel wreath and a star, symbolizing victory and the socialist ideology predominant at the time of its creation. The statue is positioned on a 3-meter-high pedestal bearing the inscription 'Lavdi e përjetshme dëshmorëve të atdheut,' meaning 'Eternal glory to the martyrs of the fatherland.' The surrounding cemetery contains the remains of approximately 28,000 partisans who died during World War II. It remains the site for official state commemorations on Independence Day and Martyrs' Day, serving as a powerful symbol of Albanian national identity and historical memory.
