Lezhë is a historically significant city in northwestern Albania, situated on the Drin River and in close proximity to the Adriatic coast. The city is home to a history spanning over 2,400 years, founded as the Illyrian settlement of Lissus. In 1444, the League of Lezhë took place here, where Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg united Albanian princes in defense against the Ottoman Empire. The Church of Saint Nicholas now houses the memorial and tomb of the national hero Skanderbeg, making the city a site of national pilgrimage. Geographically, the region gives a diverse landscape, ranging from the Kune-Vain lagoons to the sandy beaches of Shëngjin. The local economy today benefits from agriculture, fishing, and a growing tourism sector. The Castle of Lezhë, perched majestically above the city, provides a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside and the coast. Lezhë successfully combines its rich cultural heritage with the development of modern infrastructure.
