Mother Teresa Square (Albania)

Weather…

Mother Teresa Square (Sheshi Nënë Tereza) is the second largest square in Tirana, situated at the southern terminus of the Dëshmorët e Kombit Boulevard. It was designed between 1939 and 1941 by the renowned Italian architect Gherardo Bosio during the period of Italian occupation. The square serves as a prime example of Italian Rationalist architecture, featuring a grand, symmetrical layout and monumental buildings. It is bordered by several key educational and cultural institutions, including the University of Arts, the Polytechnic University, and the Archaeological Museum. In 2014, the square underwent a major renovation aimed at emphasizing its historical aesthetic and improving its function as a pedestrian-friendly public space. It frequently hosts large-scale cultural events, concerts, and official state ceremonies, including the historic 2014 papal visit. The ensemble represents a critical phase in the urban evolution of Tirana, blending mid-20th-century European design with local political significance.
