Water temperature…
Syri i Kaltër, or the Blue Eye, is a magnificent karst spring located at the base of the Mali i Gjerë mountains. Water gushes to the surface from a deep underwater cave at a rate of over 18 cubic meters per second. The spring’s center is a dark navy blue, surrounded by lighter turquoise water, creating the striking image of a giant eye. While divers have descended to 50 meters, the actual depth remains unknown due to the immense upward pressure. The water is a consistent 10 degrees Celsius year-round, making the surrounding air pleasantly cool even in mid-summer. Ancient plane trees and bustling blue dragonflies add to the ethereal beauty of the park. Visitors can walk along well-maintained paths or dine at small restaurants perched right over the flowing river. It is a protected natural monument and a mandatory stop for anyone traveling between the southern coast and the historic city of Gjirokastër.
