Vrana is a village of immense historical significance, situated near the shores of Lake Vrana, the largest natural lake in Croatia. During the Middle Ages, it was a major seat of the Knights Templar and later the Knights Hospitaller, and its fortress ruins once held the Croatian royal regalia. The most prominent landmark is Maškovića Han, a 17th-century Ottoman caravanserai, which is the westernmost surviving building of its kind in the former Ottoman Empire, now beautifully restored. Vrana sits in a fertile valley known for its agriculture, especially fruit and vegetable production. The nearby Lake Vrana Nature Park is a heaven for birdwatchers, hikers, and cyclists. Visitors should not miss the Kamenjak viewpoint for a sweeping panorama of the lake and the Kornati Islands. Combining medieval legends, unique Ottoman architecture, and rich biodiversity, Vrana features an unforgettable cultural and natural experience in the Zadar hinterland.
