Mausoleum of Prophet Daniel (Uzbekistan)

Weather…

The Mausoleum of Prophet Daniel (Khoja Daniyar) in Samarkand is a unique sacred site revered by Muslims, Christians, and Jews alike. Located on a hill overlooking the Siab River near ancient Afrosiab, it is a place of deep spiritual significance. Legend has it that the conqueror Timur brought the prophet's relics from Susa, Iran, in the 14th century to bestow prosperity and protection upon Samarkand. The most distinctive feature of the mausoleum is the extraordinarily long sarcophagus, measuring roughly 18 meters in length. Local folklore claims that the body of the prophet grows by a small amount each year, necessitating the continuous lengthening of the tomb over centuries. The current structure, topped by five domes, was built in the early 20th century. A centuries-old pistachio tree grows nearby, which famously began to bloom again in 1996 after a visit by Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow, an event locals consider a miracle.
