Ak-Saray Palace (Uzbekistan)

Weather…

The Ak-Saray Palace in Shahrisabz was the grandest of all summer residences built by Amir Timur (Tamerlane), constructed between 1380 and 1404. The name 'Ak-Saray' means 'White Palace,' reflecting Timur's noble lineage, though the building was actually adorned with spirited blue, gold, and turquoise mosaics. Only the massive ruins of the entrance portal pillars survive today, yet they still stand 38 meters high, dominating the skyline of the ancient city. Originally, the portal reached a height of over 65 meters, making it one of the largest architectural feats of the 14th century. A famous inscription on the palace read: 'If you doubt our power, look at our buildings.' The palace complex once featured sprawling courtyards, ornamental pools, and lavish reception halls for foreign dignitaries. As a cornerstone of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Shahrisabz, Ak-Saray remains a powerful testament to the ambition of the Timurid dynasty.
