Afrosiyob Museum (Uzbekistan)

Weather…

The Afrosiyob Museum in Samarkand is situated on the edge of the ancient archaeological site of Afrosiyob, which served as the precursor to the modern city. Opened in 1970, the museum is dedicated to the history of Samarkand from its founding in the 8th century BCE until its destruction by the Mongols in 1220 CE. The centerpiece of the collection is the famous 7th-century frescoes discovered in the 'Hall of Ambassadors,' depicting the diplomatic relations of Sogdian rulers. The museum houses over 22,000 artifacts, including ancient coins, ceramics, weaponry, and terracotta figurines. It provides a unique window into the Sogdian civilization and its central importance as a hub on the Great Silk Road. The archaeological layers preserved beneath the structure document over two thousand years of urban and cultural evolution.
