Sentyab

Sentyab (also known as Sentiab) is a lesser-known spot for travelers seeking an authentic rural experience in Uzbekistan. Tucked away in a lush valley of the Nuratau Mountains, the village is unique for its stone-built architecture and narrow, winding paths. It has become a model for ecotourism, where visitors can stay in local guesthouses, participate in traditional bread-baking, and enjoy genuine hospitality. The surrounding hills are rich with history, featuring ancient petroglyphs and ruins of medieval fortresses. Hiking through the walnut and pistachio groves leads to secluded waterfalls and refreshing mountain springs. As part of a protected biosphere reserve, Sentyab provides a chance to see rare wildlife like the Severtzov wild sheep in its natural habitat. Sentyab is best reached from Samarkand or Nurata by car. The most rewarding times to visit are from April to June, when the valley is spirited green, and during September and October for the local nut and fruit harvest season.
