Sofiyivka Park (Ukraine)

Weather…

Sofiyivka Park in Uman was founded in 1796 by the Polish noble Stanisław Szczęsny Potocki as a gift for his wife, Sofia. The park is regarded as one of the most outstanding examples of European landscape design from the late 18th century. It was designed by the military engineer Ludwig Metzel, who masterfully combined the natural topography with numerous artificial waterfalls, grottos, and lakes. The park's layout and features are deeply intertwined with Greek and Roman mythology, as reflected in the names of its sculptures and structures. Spanning roughly 180 hectares, the arboretum hosts over 2,000 species of trees and shrubs from all over the world. Today, Sofiyivka Park serves not only as a popular recreational area but also as a scientific institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors annually, it remains a quintessential symbol of romantic garden art.
