Sharivka Castle (Ukraine)

Weather…

Sharivka Castle, often referred to as the 'White Pearl' of the Kharkiv region, is a magnificent palace complex built in the Neo-Gothic style. The estate was founded in the early 19th century by the noble Olizar family and fundamentally rebuilt and expanded at the end of the century by the German 'Sugar King' Leopold Koenig. The white stone facade with its striking octagonal towers, battlements, and delicate decorations gives the castle a fairytale appearance. The interior of the palace was once decorated with precious wood paneling, marble fireplaces, and murals, some fragments of which have survived despite decades of use as a sanatorium. The castle is surrounded by an extensive, terraced landscape park that houses rare tree species and a famous lime tree alley, whose branches grow vertically upwards. A romantic stone bridge leads across the pond, connecting the castle with the park grounds. Although the building shows some signs of decay today, it radiates a melancholy beauty and is a popular destination for photographers and history buffs seeking the aristocratic splendor of the old Russian Empire in Ukraine.
