Kramatorsk is a major industrial city in the northern part of Donetsk Oblast and a critical center for heavy machine building in Ukraine. The city emerged in the 1860s as a railway junction and rapidly developed into an industrial powerhouse following the establishment of large-scale machinery plants. Today, Kramatorsk is best known for the New Kramatorsk Machine Device Plant (NKMZ), one of the world's largest manufacturers of mining and metallurgical equipment. Following the outbreak of the Donbas conflict in 2014, Kramatorsk became the provisional administrative center of the Donetsk Oblast. Despite its heavy industrial focus, the city features cultural venues like museums and theaters, along with green spaces such as Jubilee Park. Situated in the valley of the Kazennyi Torets River, the city is surrounded by scenic chalk hills. In recent years, the city has faced immense challenges due to its proximity to the frontline.
