Olesko Castle (Ukraine)

Weather…

Olesko Castle, perched atop a 50-meter hill, is one of the oldest and most historically significant castles in Western Ukraine. Its origins date back to the 14th century when it served as a vital border fortress between Poland, Lithuania, and Hungary. The castle gained international fame as the birthplace of King Jan III Sobieski of Poland in 1629. Following a turbulent history and periods of decay, the structure was extensively restored in the 1970s and reopened as a branch of the Lviv Art Gallery. Today, it houses an impressive collection of sculptures, paintings, and furniture from the 16th to 18th centuries, including rare wooden religious statues. The surrounding park, decorated with sculptures, complements the Renaissance-style architectural ensemble. The castle is a cornerstone of the "Golden Horseshoe" tourist route in the Lviv region.
