Lutsk Castle (Ukraine)

Weather…

Lutsk Castle, also known as Lubart's Castle, is one of the best-preserved medieval fortifications in Ukraine and a signature landmark of the city of Lutsk. Built in the 14th century by Prince Lubart, the brick fortress replaced an earlier wooden stronghold and became the administrative center of the Volhynian Principality. A key historical event was the Great Congress of European Monarchs in 1429, where rulers like Emperor Sigismund met to discuss continental defense. The castle features three prominent towers, the Entrance Tower, the Styryjska Tower, and the Vladycha Tower, connected by massive defensive walls. Inside the perimeter, visitors can explore museums dedicated to bells, ancient prints, and the ruins of the 12th-century St. John the Baptist Cathedral. The architecture is a prime example of Gothic fortification in Eastern Europe and has survived numerous sieges over the centuries. Today, it serves as the centerpiece of the "Old Lutsk" historical reserve and a major cultural destination.
