Korets Castle (Ukraine)

Weather…

Korets Castle in the Rivne Oblast is a historical defensive structure whose origins date back to 1386 when Prince Fedir Ostrogski erected the first fortifications. Later in the 16th century, the castle was significantly expanded by the Koretski princes, transforming it into an impregnable fortress with deep moats and massive walls. In the 18th century, the complex underwent an architectural transformation under the Czartoryski princes, who converted it into a grand Baroque-style residence, causing many defensive elements to be lost. A devastating fire in 1832 marked the beginning of its decay, after which the complex was never fully inhabited again. Among the structures still visible today is a striking three-arched brick bridge from the 18th century that once spanned the castle moat. The ruins of the main building and the gate tower hint at the former grandeur of this noble seat, which today stands as a landmark of Volhynian history.
