Fasht al Jarim is one of Bahrain's most significant and largest coral reefs, located approximately 30 kilometers north of the capital city, Manama. This massive reef system consists of three main reef structures that partially emerge from the turquoise waters of the Persian Gulf during low tide. Historically, Fasht al Jarim was a hub for Bahrain's legendary pearling industry, as its clear waters provided the excellent environment for pearl oysters to thrive. Today, the area is primarily recognized for its ecological diversity. It serves as an important habitat for rare dugongs (sea cows), which graze on the extensive seagrass beds surrounding the reef. For divers and snorkelers, the reef has a remarkable underwater landscape filled with various coral species and animated marine life. Despite its allure, access is weather-dependent and requires skilled navigation through the shallows, making it an exclusive destination for nature enthusiasts.
