Chornomorsk is a major port city on the Black Sea coast in the Odesa Oblast of southern Ukraine. The city is relatively young, having been founded in 1954 as Illichivsk to support the construction and operation of a large deep-water seaport. In 2016, the city was renamed Chornomorsk to emphasize its Black Sea identity during the national decommunization process. The Port of Chornomorsk is one of the largest and most technologically advanced in the country, serving as a vital gateway for international trade, particularly in grain exports and container shipping. Beyond its industrial prowess, the city has successfully developed into a popular seaside resort, known for its clean beaches and orderly urban environment. The main municipal beach was the first in Ukraine to be awarded the international Blue Flag certification for excellence in water quality and environmental management. Chornomorsk's urban design features wide boulevards, extensive parklands, and a scenic coastal promenade. Home to approximately 58.000 residents, the city provides a high quality of life by balancing economic vitality with maritime leisure. It also serves as an important hub for international ferry services connecting Ukraine with Georgia and Turkey.
