Bilhorod Castle (Ukraine)

Weather…

Akkerman Fortress, also known as Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi Fortress, is one of the most formidable and well-preserved medieval fortifications in Ukraine. It was constructed between the 13th and 15th centuries on the remains of the ancient Greek city of Tyras on the banks of the Dniester Estuary. The complex spans nine hectares and is protected by a 2.5-kilometer-long curtain wall originally featuring 34 towers. The fortress is divided into four functional yards: the Civil Yard, the Garrison Yard, the Port or Economic Yard, and the massive Citadel. Historically, the castle was the site of numerous battles between Moldavians, Ottomans, and Russians. Particularly impressive are the walls reaching heights of up to 15 meters and the deep defensive moats. Today, the fortress is a national historical preserve and serves as a venue for knight festivals and cultural events that attract visitors from around the globe.
