Itaaba Kyabanyoro (Uganda)

Weather…

Itaaba Kyabanyoro, in southwestern Uganda, is a historical site of immense cultural importance, deeply intertwined with the legends of the Bachwezi dynasty. According to tradition, this was the location where the semi-mythical Bachwezi rulers held their final council before mysteriously disappearing from the region, believed to be around the 15th century. The centerpiece of the site is an ancient, towering tree known as 'Kaije-Nchweke', under which the assembly is said to have occurred. Surrounding the tree are stones placed in a specific arrangement, believed to represent the seating order of the Bachwezi leaders during their council, with the largest stone representing King Wamara. For the Ankole people, Itaaba Kyabanyoro is a sacred place, marking the final connection to their revered ancestors. It is believed that King Ndahura, the first of the Bachwezi kings, abdicated his throne at this very spot, handing it over to his son, Wamara.
