Nadir Shah Fortress (Turkmenistan)

Weather…

The Nadir Shah Fortress, also known as the Kaka Fortress, is an impressive 18th-century military monument located near the town of Kaka in southern Turkmenistan. It was constructed on the orders of the Persian ruler Nadir Shah, who used the area as a strategic base during his military campaigns in Central Asia. The fortress is characterized by massive mud-brick walls that were once equipped with numerous watchtowers and embrasures for defense. The square layout of the complex covers a vast area that housed barracks, supply stores, and administrative buildings. Nadir Shah utilized this location to consolidate control over the restless border regions and to gather his troops for further military advances. Following his death in 1747, the fortress gradually lost its strategic significance and fell into partial ruin. Today, the monumental remains serve as an important testament to Persian military architecture and the turbulent history of Turkmenistan in the 18th century.
