Korbous

Korbous is spectacularly situated on the cliffs of the Gulf of Tunis on the Cap Bon peninsula. Known in ancient times as Aquae Calidae Carpitanae, it was a highly valued spa destination for the Romans. The town's architecture is a characterful blend of colonial style and traditional Tunisian elements, clinging tightly to the steep hillsides. The main attraction is the Ain Atrous spring, where nearly boiling, sulfurous water gushes from the rocks and mixes with the cool sea water. This creates a unique natural thermal bath right on the shoreline. Beyond the therapeutic springs, the surrounding area provides excellent hiking opportunities on Mount Korbous, providing views as far as Carthage on clear days. Local cuisine features fresh fish and typical dishes from the Cap Bon region, often seasoned with harissa and olive oil. The best time to visit is spring or late autumn, when the heat is not too overwhelming. Korbous is about 60 kilometers from Tunis and is best reached by car or shared taxi (louage) via the scenic coastal road.
