Djebel Bou Kornine (Tunisia)

Weather…

Djebel Bou Kornine is a prominent twin-peaked mountain overlooking the Gulf of Tunis and the coastal town of Hammam Lif. Reaching an elevation of 576 meters, its iconic silhouette makes it one of the most recognizable landmarks in the Tunis metropolitan area. The name is of Phoenician origin, meaning "Lord of the Two Horns," referring to its distinctive double summit. In ancient times, the mountain was considered sacred and was dedicated to the Carthaginian god Baal-Kornine. Today, the area is protected as the Bou Kornine National Park, home to a rich variety of flora, including rare wild orchids and cyclamens. Geologically, the mountain consists of Jurassic limestone that rises steeply from the surrounding coastal plain. It features hikers numerous trails with spectacular views of Tunis, the ruins of Carthage, and the Cape Bon peninsula. Its proximity to the capital and historical hot springs at its base make it a favorite destination for both nature lovers and history enthusiasts.
