Bombouaka lies about 25 kilometres south of Dapaong in Tône Prefecture (Savanes Region) and is nationally known as the home of a major Catholic educational complex. The mission, run by Salesians of Don Bosco, operates a respected secondary school, a vocational training centre and several social projects for disadvantaged young people from across northern Togo and neighbouring countries. The boarding facility attracts pupils from distant regions. Geographically, Bombouaka sits in a semi-arid Sahelian transition zone of broad savannas, karité and néré trees, and small valleys that allow irrigated market gardening. Economically the region depends on subsistence farming - millet, sorghum and groundnuts - complemented by shea butter production. The population is predominantly Moba, whose traditional dances and pottery are carefully documented and supported by the mission and the schools.
