Jebel Kurun is a prominent rock formation in the South Kordofan state of Sudan, part of the Nuba Mountains range. It consists predominantly of massive granite rock that has been carved into spectacular shapes by erosion over millions of years. The relief is characterized by steep cliffs, deep crevices, and broad plateaus, forming an imposing presence in the otherwise flat savanna of the Kordofan region. Geographically, Jebel Kurun serves as an important water reservoir, as its rock basins can store water after seasonal rains. Historically and culturally, the mountain is of great significance to the local Nuba tribes, for whom it often served as a sacred site or a place of refuge during times of conflict. The vegetation at higher elevations of the mountain is more diverse than in the surrounding lowlands, including various acacia species and rare grasses.
