Sevanagala Sugar Factory (Sri Lanka)

Weather…

The Sevanagala Sugar Factory, located in the Moneragala District, is one of the most vital sugar production facilities in Sri Lanka. It was commissioned in 1986 and is currently managed by the state-owned Lanka Sugar Company (Pvt) Ltd. The factory has a crushing capacity of approximately 1,250 tonnes of cane per day (TCD). Beyond producing refined sugar for the domestic market, the facility plays a critical role in generating ethanol from molasses, which is used for medical and industrial purposes. The factory supports thousands of local smallholder farmers who cultivate sugarcane over an area of about 4,000 hectares in the Sevanagala region. Through integrated irrigation projects and technical assistance, the plant secures the livelihoods of the rural population and reduces the country's reliance on expensive sugar imports.
