Getting there
The well-marked trailhead is easily reachable on foot or by tuk-tuk straight from the lively center of Ella. The path typically begins right near the fringes of the local tea plantations.
Best season
Early mornings or late afternoons year-round are considered good for starting the trek. However, the drier months from January to March consistently offer the clearest panoramic views.
Terrain & paths
The path involves a surprisingly moderate, steady incline winding gracefully through working tea estates. This is followed by a final, steeper section of stairs leading directly up to the cone-shaped summit.
What to bring
Breathable clothing, a wide sun hat, and sturdy walking shoes are strongly recommended for the exposed ascent. Bringing a large bottle of water is also vital due to the warm tropical climate.
Parking
Tuk-tuks usually drop visitors off exactly at the trailhead for maximum convenience. For those driving, very limited roadside parking is available near the main entrance of the tea estate.
Safety
Stay well-hydrated to completely avoid heat exhaustion during the sunny, uphill sections. It is also important to remain highly cautious near the steep, totally unfenced edges at the very top.
Time needed
The complete round trip generally takes between two and three hours at a comfortable pace. This conveniently includes plenty of time to rest and take spectacular photos at the summit.
