Loro Parque (Spain)

Weather…

Loro Parque, idyllically located in Puerto de la Cruz in northern Tenerife, is far more than just a traditional zoo, it is a world-renowned institution for species conservation and animal welfare. Originally opened in 1972 exclusively as a parrot park ('loro' translates to parrot), it has evolved over the decades into one of the most visited and highly awarded zoological facilities in the world. Today, with over 4,000 parrots from more than 350 species and subspecies, the park houses the largest and most diverse parrot collection on Earth. In addition to the brightly colored birds, Loro Parque impresses with gigantic, ultra-modern facilities such as 'Planet Penguin,' the largest penguinarium outside the polar regions, which produces real Antarctic snow. The professional presentations of orcas in the 'Orca Ocean,' as well as those of dolphins and sea lions, are equally spectacular. Through its own Loro Parque Fundación, substantial funds flow into global nature conservation projects that have already saved several parrot species from certain extinction.
