Oropesa del Mar features a clear divide: while the northern part is characterized by the modern hotel and apartment complexes of the Marina d'Or holiday resort, the town center itself has distinct historical roots. On a hill above the city lie the winding streets of the old quarter and the remains of a former Moorish castle. Standing guard directly on the coastline is the Torre del Rey, a massive 16th-century defense tower originally constructed to protect against pirate raids. The two main beaches, La Concha tucked away in a sheltered bay and the more open Morro de Gos, are linked by a lively promenade. For cyclists and hikers, the edge of town marks the start of the Vía Verde del Mar, a former railway line converted into a greenway that runs along the cliffs, through tunnels and rocky cuttings without significant inclines, connecting to neighboring Benicàssim. The neighboring Cape Oropesa also protects the historic town center from strong winds and forms a natural geological boundary facing the open sea.
